Norfolk Branch

Executive Committee

27th September 2024

SLCC National Events

We are a professional body that can help you as a clerk to develop your skills and provide you with advice and guidance when you need it.

About

Norfolk is the second largest county in England, with just over 500 parish and town councils.

We support Norfolk members who belong to the National Society of Local Council Clerks.  We support mentoring for new clerks and organise training and conferences.

Training bursary

We offer a bursary to clerks of smaller councils in particular as we know that money can sometimes be tight.

The bursary allows clerks to receive up to 50% off the cost of relevant training, events or publications provided by SLCC.

Norfolk Joint Conference at Norwich City Football Club

On 12 September 2024 Clerks and Councillors from across Norfolk and beyond gathered at the prestigious Norwich Citty Football Club.  Delegates participated in a joint Conference which was headed by the Norfolk branch of the Society of Local Council Clerks and the Norfolk Association of Local Councils and fully supported by SLCC National and NALC.

Mr Alan Fairchild, MBE, FSLCC Honorary Vice President, did an excellent job of compering the event. There was a varied programme of speakers covering a wide range of topics including Flood protection measures, Risk and Event management, the many uses of Artificial Intelligence and how to prevent Burnout.

There was a buzz in the room throughout and a good response to speakers with many questions after each session. Attendees had the opportunity to mingle with old friends and also network and make new contacts during the day.

Refreshments and a delicious lunch were served by the famous Delia’s Kitchen crew and as well as enjoying the food there was the opportunity to visit the many Exhibitors present.  All Exhibitors were sector related and on hand to give expert advice as well as lots of free handouts which are always popular.

The Conference was offered at below cost to both SLCC and NALC members. Supporting the event on the day were key figures from both national organisations: Mr Jonathan Owen, CEO NALC, Cllr Keith Stevens, Chairman NALC, Mr Michael King, Head of Policy, SLCC. Gina Lopes, Chairman of SLCC Norfolk Branch and SLCC President Elect opened the Conference and was in attendance throughout.

Gina said “We had a great day and on behalf of SLCC Norfolk branch, I would like to thank all the delegates, speakers and exhibitors for attending and making this event such a great success.”

NORFOLK CLERKS CELEBRATE DURING LOCAL COUNCIL CLERK WEEK

There was a gathering of Norfolk Clerks at the Assembly Rooms in Norwich to celebrate with other members during “Local Council Clerk Week”.  Clerks from across the County joined together on Friday,14 June 2024 to enjoy a scrumptious Afternoon Tea in this lovely setting in the heart of the historic City.

We all know that as Clerks we are hardworking individuals but, for once, we gave ourselves a day off from the office.  As well as enjoying the food, Clerks spent the afternoon reconnecting with friends and mingling with colleagues from the far reaches of Norfolk.

The Chairman of the Norfolk Branch, Gina Lopes, said “We felt it was important to mark this special occasion and wanted to enable local Clerks to spend quality time together.  What better way to do this than to meet in an elegant house and spend the day relaxing to de-stress and embrace the company of fellow Clerks.  They all do a great job, working really hard for their communities, but are often working alone and not given the recognition they deserve.  This event was an opportunity to recognise the important roles they have and to celebrate them as the amazing people they are”

Dear Fellow Clerks

During this special week I wanted to thank you all for the hard work and dedication you put in daily in your role as a Local Council Clerk.  You are doing a great job and I hope that is being recognised by your Councillors and your parishioners.

Please take a moment in the next few days to relax and enjoy some TLC as you definitely deserve it!

For those of you that are joining us at the Assembly Rooms on Friday, I look forward to seeing you there and for those that cannot make it we will think of you and raise a glass.

All best wishes

Gina
